Montrose, Colorado 81401

Montrose is a quiet, peaceful community, located in the beautiful Uncompahgre Valley of Western Colorado at an elevation of approximately 5800 ft. above sea level. The town is extremely progressive and many believe that it is the perfect location to live and to raise children. It is the second largest shopping area on the entire Western Slope, with Grand Junction (only an hour's drive to the North) being the largest. Interstate 70 is located just North of Grand Junction. Our climate is about as ideal as one will find in the entire state, being neither too warm in the summer (our warmest temperatures are usually in the mid 90's) nor too cold in the winter. (Winter temperatures seldom dip to zero) Schools are first rate and our hospital has long been known for its quality of care.

We have a modern indoor swimming pool, several golf courses, two theater complexes offering 6 screens, Dolby® Digital 5.1 Sound and one drive in theater. There is a Historical Museum showcasing life in the early days of Montrose and the Ute Indian Museum depicting life of the Ute Indians, also in the early days of the valley. Hiking, jeeping, hunting, and fishing, horseback riding and of course, skiing (world famous Telluride is only a little over an hour's drive) are just a few of the outdoor activities available. Ouray, the Switzerland of America, with many exotic jeep & mountain hiking trails, is a short 30 minute drive to the South. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument is a short 30 minute drive to the East. Grand Mesa is a short 45 minute drive to the North.

Our airport is second to none for a town of our size, offering daily flights to Denver with connecting world wide flights. During ski season we have direct flights to Dallas, Houston, Newark and Chicago. A shuttle service provides transfers between Montrose and Telluride, Durango, Cortez and most cities on the Western Slope. The Chamber of Commerce is extremely active and the Real Estate Community first rate. We have many types of restaurants, both sit down and fast food. South Montrose is growing at an accelerated rate and one can find virtually any type of business to meet their needs. Tourism and agriculture are our primary industry. The Gunnison tunnel, a major feat of engineering around the turn of the century, provides life giving water for the farming community.

The senior segment of our population is one of our fastest growing areas. There are many different activities for senior citizens and the Montrose pavilion hosts senior citizen meals (and many other activities) on a regular basis.
